Critical oil and gas seals made, tested and delivered in four hours
A blue-chip oil and gas company urgently required O-rings, PTFE ball seats and PEEK wear seats for high-temperature valves on an offshore platform.
Problem
The customer experienced a failure in critical sealing elements on high-temperature valves. This issue would have a severely detrimental effect on production downtime if not resolved very quickly. A twelve-hour window was afforded in which to source and receive pressure tested O-rings with a demonstrable resistance to explosive decompression.
PPE Solution
Engineers from Precision Polymer Engineering were on site within hours, evaluating the valve assembly and the demands of the application. The recommended seal material was EnDura® Z95X, with O-rings available in stock in a PPE-affiliated Aberdeen facility.
PTFE ball seats and PEEK wear sets were required for the valve assembly, and were manufactured using the rapid production service.
Outcome
From initial contact to seal fitting took just four hours – well within the customer’s own specified window for this unscheduled maintenance event. The responsiveness of PPE’s service saved the customer thousands of pounds in lost production, as well as supplying a lasting sealing solution proven to deliver improved resistance to the chemical, thermal and environmental demands of offshore oil and gas valves.
