Packers

PackersElastomer Packers, manufactured by PPE, are specially designed to withstand hostile downhole environments and produce the required isolation in Oil wells seen in exploration, drilling, and well-service applications.

The downhole sealing device is used in almost every completion to isolate the annulus from the production conduit, enabling controlled production, injection or treatment.

The Packer assembly incorporates a means of securing the packer against the casing or liner wall, such as a slip arrangement, and a means of creating a reliable hydraulic seal to isolate the annulus, typically by means of the expandable elastomeric element. Packers are classified by application, setting method and possible retrievability.

We supply a wide range of packer types including:

  • Removable Packers
  • Permanent Packers
  • Completion Packers
  • Compression-set/Mechanical Packers

To help you define what type of Packer you may require for your application, we recommend that you consider the life-span, pressure rating and swelling time needed.

  • Production and Test Packers

The characteristics of a Production or Test elastomeric Packer involve the outside diameter expanding, by being squeezed between two plates, forcing to bulge outward. Production or Test Packers are set in cased holes, whereas inflatable Packers are used in open or cased holes.

  • Swelling or Inflatable Packers

The characteristics of a Swelling or Inflatable elastomeric Packer is achieved by pumping the appropriate swelling agent into a bladder (aromatic hydrocarbons or saline water), in much the same fashion as balloon, but having a much more robust construction.  These types of packers have historically-proven to replace traditional mechanical packers and cement.
